Lean Into Light
Brigham Young University's mission and aims are just as important as their efforts in educating. The theme of every year's Homecoming celebration focuses on how the students, faculty, and alumni of BYU can use what they learn to share light with the world.
General Marketing
Cosmo the Cougar, the university mascot, was the best option as the face of this campaign. He's the most energetic exciting mascot and clearly represents the heart of BYU. Playing off of Cosmo's dynamism and the idea of refracting light, these posters effectively communicated our theme of Lean Into Light.
Opening Ceremony
The first event of Homecoming kicks off the week with a big show bringing together different performing groups from across campus like BYU Folk Dance, Marching Band, the Cougarette Dancer, and more. Opening Ceremony gets its own special branding to highlight the unique presentation that it is. I created this custom modular typeface and used a dynamic green and blue color scheme that isn't commonly seen on campus.
Graphics created by me were up on all the screens surrounding the Marriott Center including the jumbotron, the halo screen, the portal screens, and the main backdrop.
Brimhall Essay Writing Contest
Every homecoming, the Brimhall family, one of the founding families of the university, highlights another university founder and hosts an essay writing competition. Students are free to submit a short essay relating to that founder's life and the annual theme, this year's being Lean Into Light. I employed the use of a strong hierarchy of typography and an illustrated portrait of this year's founder, Martha Jane Knowlton Coray, due to the lack of high quality photography from that era.
Homecoming from Home
BYU has a very wide reach with alumni. In an effort to involve those who aren't living in our university's local community, BYU Alumni and I designed a campaign of swag boxes that would be sent out to the local chapters. This proved to be a hit! Chapters asked for them at our Alumni Chapter Conference and shared the Spirit of the Y with their local communities across the United States.
